After retaining the lead in a Victoria’s Secret PINK competition, Mason qualified to be in a PINK Representative Program.
“This means free parties, PINK events, concerts, merchandise giveaways and the opportunity to be included in the Victoria's Secret PINK Collegiate Collection,” said Brianna Carey, founder of the GMU PINK Nation campaign, in an email.
The Victoria’s Secret website announced on Tuesday the top ten schools with the most online votes, which include Virginia Commonwealth University and James Madison University. The top ten schools win two PINK representatives for fall 2013 and the chance to have PINK apparel with their school's logo.
Mason students Brianna Carey, Jada Nicome, Jasmine Peterson, Imani Sherrill and Melita Wongus created the GMU PINK Nation social media campaign in order to help Mason be part of the PINK Rep program.
“Through the creation of the GMU PINK Nation social networking pages, the word about the competition spread very quickly to students throughout the Mason community,” Carey said.
Voting in the competition increased significantly within days of the campaign being launched.
“GMU was able to jump from the 26th spot to the first spot in only five days, and we were able to hold a lead of over 3,000 votes for three weeks,” Carey said in an email.
Creators noticed that participating in the PINK Nation competition has fostered a different kind of school spirit for students.
“Many students have also expressed that competing in this competition and watching Mason move up in the ranks has given them a type of school spirit that they have never had before,” Carey wrote.
GMU PINK Nation also encourages students to vote in order to win a PINK party at Mason.
