Inaugural team handball tournament a success

This past weekend, George Mason University’s Recreation Department held their first ever Handball Tournament. Handball is a sport much like soccer, but is played with hands instead of feet. The tournament was held in the Field House and included 10 teams made up of 114 participants. The tournament began with pool play, which included three pools of teams, with the top two from each moving on to a single elimination round. The final match was between Kappa Sigma (Red) and Theta Chi with Kappa Sigma (Red) finishing on top in a very close matchup. Referring to the tournament, Trent Houston, one of the officials, stated, “[That it] made me want to play. I’ll definitely be looking to form a team next handball tournament.”

Prior to the tournament Mason Recreation held a Handball Clinic in association with the DC Diplomats Handball Club on February 8^th. The clinic had 40 participants. The clinic entailed an introduction to the basic rules of handball, followed by a handful of drills, and concluded with scrimmages between the participants.
