'Superhero Movie' an Endless Bad Joke

By Connect Mason Reporter Emily Culley

Be warned. 5,160 seconds is how long you will have to count down to reach the end of "Superhero Movie", give or take a couple hundred seconds for the "Incredible Hulk" trailer. Granted, "Superhero Movie" is not nearly as bad as the other spoofs have been in the recent years, using classics such as the "Naked Gun" series as inspiration — as well as actor Leslie Neilson.

The story line parodies other superhero flicks. Rick Riker (Drake Bell) lives with his Aunt Lucille (Marion Ross) and Uncle Albert (Leslie Neilson) after his parents were brutally murdered in the alley after a play. The death scene is overdone and just plain stupid.

While on a school trip, Rick accidentally pours hormonal chemicals on himself, enhancing animals’ sexual drive and causing a dragonfly to bite him. After Rick is bitten, more super hero movies are poorly woven and introduced into the plot line, including "Fantastic Four," "Batman," "X-Men" and "The Green Hornet." While parts of the spoof are funny, the plot line turns up short and rather annoying.

"Superhero Movie" also targeted the technology and movie stars of Hollywood; including Tom Cruise, iPods, YouTube and Steven Hawking. The majority of the spoofs that were developed lingered in the plot for too long, became redundant and just would not end. The spoofs that referenced other, non-superhero-related items like Facebook, T-Mobile, and unprofessional doctors, were more entertaining.

All in all, it was an ongoing joke that would not end from a superhero fad that has yet to die out. Some of the jokes started off slightly humorous, but after 10 minutes of the same joke, in the same room, with the same overdone acting it grew old. C-
