New Student Group Formed

The Immigration Advocacy Group, a newly formed student group focused on rights for residents in Prince William County—specifically concerning anti-immigration policies in the county—will have a panel discussion on Wednesday in the Johnson Center Cinema from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event is titled, “Speak Out: The Experience of the Prince William County Immigration Community.”
Filmmaker Presents "Late Spring"

The Japanese film Late Spring was shown in the Johnson Center Cinema last Thursday and attracted roughly 25 students.
Many of the students are either interested in film, Japanese language or both. The movie was one of many events hosted by Asian Pacific American Coalition in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
HSA Members Hold Clothes Drive to Give Back to the Local Community

Recently, the Hispanic Student Association extended its clothing drive to Saturday, April 26, in order to receive more donations on behalf of those in need. The clothing drive, which has received many different items including coats, clothes, belts, bags and shoes, has encouraged George Mason University students to be involved and give back to others.

With George Mason University’s standing as one of the most culturally diverse public universities in the nation, it is a priority to educate students, faculty and staff about the variety of cultures, nationalities and religions represented at the school.
One student organization at Mason that is working to do this is the Middle East Et Cetera Film Club.
Plants on Fairfax Campus Relocated

Students, faculty and volunteers from many different organizations came together under the sun last Wednesday to dig up plants and re-plant them in a safer location on George Mason University’s Fairfax campus.
Fenwick Fellows Receive Recognition For Research

Each year, the Fenwick Fellow Program, which was established in 1983, awards fellowships to one or two George Mason University faculty members. The program provides the faculty members with quiet, secluded offices in Fenwick Library, as well as access to Fenwick’s collection, to assist them with their individual research projects. The results of their extensive research are then added to the library’s collection.
"Alcohol Exposed" Director Gives Lecture

Tom Tazalaar started Alcohol Exposed as his way of continuing to serve the community after 31 years on the police force. After eight years, Tazalaar has become highly experienced in the field and he leads a typical afternoon focused on anti-alcohol and anti-drug discussions.

In Wise County, Va., Dominion Energy has proposed a coal-fired plant. In doing so, 5.3 million tons of carbon dioxide would be released per year, which would greatly increase global warming and contribute to the destruction of the environment.
Patriots Compete Judicially

For students who are interested in biology, actual case files and forensics, a mock trial event was created to promote a biology course. The course titled, Biology 575 Forensic DNA Analysis, is geared towards investigative studies and is taught with Dr. Tom McClintock of the department of molecular and microbiology. McClintock’s spring semester class presented the mock trial on a fictitious case, U.S. Government v. Chapman.
Italian Representatives Come To Mason

The religious studies department, the modern and classical language department and the Center for Global Education sponsored a panel presentation featuring two ambassadors from Italy. Ambassadors Paolo Janni and Luigi V. Ferraris discussed the relationship between Italy and the United States in the 21st century.
