College of Science plans building addition, anticipates new School of Systems Biology
|The College of Science is preparing for infrastructural changes, including a 50,000 square foot addition, connecting Science and Technology I and II. The College also announced the creation of the School of Systems Biology, recently approved by the university Board of Visitors. The pending changes in the College of Science have been relayed via the COS twitter account.
President Merten addresses university community at Fall Convocation
|The Fall Convocation was held Wednesday afternoon in the Mason Inn ballroom. University President Alan Merten, Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens and Associate Provost for Graduate Education Michelle Marks each addressed the Mason community with presentations on the infrastructural, academic and fiscal initiatives the university is undertaking.
The event was open to all members of the university, including students, faculty and staff.
Mason's dodgeball record hopes deflated by UCI
|Attendants at the Mason Welcome Week Event: World’s Largest Game of Dodgeball on Sept. 3, are now learning their world record attempt was bounced by another university: University of California at Irvine.
According to the Guinness Book of World Record’s website, on Sept 22, less than three weeks after Mason’s attempt, UCI amassed a greater number of “dodgeballers” with 1,745 participants in the match, eclipsing Mason’s total of 1,257.
Congressional candidates spar at Mason Inn
|Candidates from two of Northern Virginia’s congressional races faced-off over lunch at the Mason Inn Tuesday.
With three weeks to go before voters head to the polls, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce hosted the political debates between the candidates for Virginia’s eighth-congressional district and between the candidates for the 11th-district, which includes Mason’s Fairfax Campus.

University acknowledges charges against professor for alleged misconduct in report critical of climate science
|George Mason University officials acknowledged they are aware of plagiarism and misconduct charges made against a professor and known climate science critic.
In 2006, statistics professor Edward Wegman facilitated a Congressional report critical of scientists’ reconstructions of past climate conditions.

Dir-T Birdz win intramural soccer championship
|The Dir-T Birdz defeated the Saints, 1-0, to capture the Fall Co-Rec Soccer title Thursday night in front of a lively crowd at Robinson Field.
Both teams were undefeated, 5-0, entering the championship game of the 10-team league.
