Women's Lacrosse drops double-OT heartbreaker to Delaware

The Mason Women’s Lacrosse team lost a tough double-overtime thriller, 12-11, to the Delaware Blue Hens on Friday night at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots were led by a pair of hat-tricks from junior Emily Ellisen and sophomores Caitlin Formato and Allie Hilderbrandt.

Message of non-violence discussed at International Week event

Two Scholars from India on Thursday explained that the Gandhian philosophy of non-violent resistance is the most successful way to bring down regimes.

The Globalization in India Working Group hosted the event, “Non-Violent Resistance Today – Issues, Strategies and Challenges” on April 14. Many students and faculty members attended the International Week event.

Recommendation technology boosts results on campus

College students are accustom to getting recommendations from sites like Facebook and Netflix for what friends to add or movie to watch.  But now, that technology is coming to some campuses to help students select classes and it might just lead to better grades and less dropouts.  The Chronicle of Higher Education has more.

Participants meet in front of the Center for the Arts building on Mason’s Fairfax campus. Campus Crusade for Christ poses question on freedom

What does it mean to be truly free?  That was the question being asked on a giant poster board outside the Johnson Center in North Plaza last week on April 13 and 14. The event, which was sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ, was an outreach project meant to promote conversation between students of different religious backgrounds and to make people think.

First task force meeting concerning University Police interaction draws 11 speakers

Update: April 15, 3:19 p.m.

An official university task force formed earlier this month to seek input on “interactions and experiences” with university police held its first of two open meetings Tuesday afternoon.All Students, faculty and staff were able to sign up prior to the meeting, and 11 people who had signed up spoke. 

Each open meeting has 24 time slots for brief statements. 

Student loan debt to top $1 trillion

As more students go to college across the county and as more of them borrow money to do it, experts predict student loan debt to reach $1 trillion by the end of the year.  The New York Times has more.
