GMU Students for Workers' Rights pass out fliers against Sodexo
|
Members of the GMU Students for Workers' Rights handed out fliers yesterday in North Plaza calling for action to be taken against Sodexo. The group citied concerns over safety, low wages and discrimination as reasons why Sodexo should be removed as Mason’s food provider.

Congress' budget cuts could hit Pell program
|As Congress works to approve a reduced budget, the proposed cuts could mean reduced Pell Grant awards for college students across the county. Changes to the grant-aid program this late into the admissions process might cause problems for students. The Washington Post has more.

Healthy eating made easier on campus
|With 27 different restaurants and kiosks on George Mason University’s three campuses, there is a variety of dining options for students and facility. However, this also means more and easier access to less nutritious foods. Most people don’t have time to sit down to a wholesome meal between classes, homework, sports and other commitments, but this doesn’t mean that you have to go without healthy dietary options.
Retired coast guard admiral will deliver 2011 commencement address
|Retired U.S. Coast Guard admiral Thad Allen has worked on the scenes of hurricanes, helped lead security responses on September 11, and was the national incident commander of the recent BP oil spill. In May, Allen will set his sights to George Mason University as he is scheduled to give the commencement speech at graduation, according to the Mason Gazette.
Allen will be the keynote speaker for Mason’s 2011 Commencement, which is to be held Sat. May 21 at 10 a.m. This will be Mason 44th commencement and it will be located in the Patriot Center.
