Snap of the Week, April 8



Hey Patriots. Welcome to Week 3 of  a new weekly feature on Connect2Mason, the C2M Snap of the Week. 

The idea's pretty simple:

Class registration for fall semester begins this month

Students who have not yet begun thinking about classes for the fall only have a few days left before registration begins.

Class registration for this fall begins Tuesday, April 12 and each student is assigned a time ticket based on the number of their completed credit hours.

Students celebrate Pride Week

Update: April 8, 1:54 p.m.

Students across campus have been celebrating Pride Week over the last few days. C2M's Alicia Thayer stopped by the LGBT Resource Carnival on Tuesday where guests were able to find out information about LGBT organizations, volunteer opportunities and services, and filmed the event.

Mason to form task force on ‘interactions and experiences’ with University Police

Student and Mason community member testimony will play a central role in an official university task force formed to seek input on “interactions and experiences” with the University Police Department, the Office of the President announced on April 6.

In an e-mail sent to students and other Mason community members, the office said that the task force had been formed so as to “foster a community where respect for all is the hallmark.”

Government shutdown threatens federal internships

College students hoping to land an internship with the federal government this summer may face disappointment.

With both Republican and Democratic parties thus far unable to reach an agreement on the budget, current federal employees and even college students seeking employment with federal agencies face a possible government shutdown at midnight Friday. If a government hiring freeze is enacted, it would be the first such shutdown since 1996.

The Last Monarchs to perform in Student Media office

The Last Monarchs will perform this Friday in the new Student Media office in Student Union Building II, now called “the Hub.”

The Last Monarchs who describe themselves as a four piece acoustic indie folk band will be the first in the concert series “Sessions.” The series is sponsored by WGMU and Mason Cable Network and each concert will be filmed by MCN. MCN will then make a music video of each concert.

Bowers, Yoo elected Student Government presidency, vice-presidency

The George Mason Student Government Elections and Disputes Commission announced that Allyson Bowers has won the position of Student Body President. Her runningmate, Jacky Yoo, will be the Vice President.

Philanthropy brings together Greek life and Student Government


Student Government and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity held a joint fundraiser yesterday at The Rat for the Fisher House Foundation. (Jenna Beaver)

Members of Student Government and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity held a fundraiser at the Rathskeller on Mason’s Fairfax campus Wednesday evening where 15 percent of proceeds were donated to the Fisher House Foundation.
