Mason’s first-ever Asian American fraternity initiated
|Pi Delta Psi was recently initiated as Mason’s first Asian-American cultural fraternity chapter.
Considering that Mason has eight cultural interest sororities and fraternities, including one Asian-American interest sorority, the fraternity’s founders reasoned that Mason needed an Asian-American cultural fraternity.
ESPN to hold recruitment event at Mason
|The global sports television network, ESPN will be holding a recruiting event at George Mason University on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 1:30 p.m to 2:30 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Room C.
The event, sponsored by University Career Services, focuses on ESPN jobs dealing with statistics, analytics and information within the ESPN Stats & Info Group.

Prior to boarding the team bus and heading south to Charleston, S.C. for The Citadel Memorial Challenge, George Mason baseball coach Bill Brown, entering his 33rd season, sat in his office looking over some papers in preparation for the 2013 season.
For Brown, who has coached the Patriots to 873 wins throughout his tenure, the expectations for the upcoming season were the same as they have been in years past.
Tobin's hot bat lifts Patriots to sweep of Iona in Sunday doubleheader
|The George Mason faithful had their brooms on hand in hopes of a series sweep against Iona College on Sunday.
The Patriots didn’t disappoint.
Mason (3-3) took all three games against Iona (1-5) at Spuhler Field this weekend, including two big wins in Sunday’s double-header.
The Patriots dominated on the mound and in the batter’s box in the first game of the doubleheader, winning 13-1. The game featured outstanding performances from juniors Jared Gaynor and Tucker Tobin.
Mason men's basketball ends three-game home skid with last-second win over Tribe
|Finding the right balance between starters and bench, the George Mason men’s basketball team managed to erase a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat conference rival William and Mary, 60-58 at the Patriot Center on Saturday.

|For the past five months, the awards race has been in play. Now it all comes to an end. This Sunday night, the 85th Academy of Motion Pictures Awards, a.k.a. the Oscars, will wrap-up one of the most surprising and enjoyable years of film to date.
While a front-runner consensus is still to be undecided in many categories,-uncharacteristic this close to awards night- the debates fervently rage on. Predictions change with each new development in the race and opinions rarely have held true for more than a few days at a time.
Mason baseball routs Iona, 12-3 in first home game
|The George Mason baseball team opened their first home series against Iona University (1-3) on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field in Fairfax. But the frigid, and at times, icy conditions didn’t cool down the hot bats of the Patriots (1-3), who collected 13 hits and scored a season-high 12 runs to defeat the Gaels, 12-3.
Mason junior pitcher Anthony Montefusco made the start, allowing one run on four hits through five innings while striking out seven.
OPINION: Why sequestration is problematic
|The United States cannot sustainably spend more money than it takes in—period. There will be a point where we are so tragically in debt, countries will stop buying our bonds and investing in the American economy. At the point that the world recognizes our budgetary issues cause us to be an unsustainable black hole, America itself will lose potency and further degrade its reputation.
Mason campuses experience growing pains with new construction
|Faculty and staff hoping to move into the new Health and Human Services building next semester will have to wait a little longer.
While the building was one of Mason’s top priorities, the project has been put on hold for a year. The building, expected to house the Health and Human Services department, did not secure the necessary funding to complete the project.
