Mason men's soccer defeats VCU in overtime to advance to the A-10 Championship game
|The Mason men’s soccer team defeated in-state rival Virginia Commonwealth University 3-2 on Friday night and became the first team to represent George Mason University in a championship game since its move to the Atlantic-10 conference.
Timi Mulgrew sealed the win with a header off a Zach Herstek cross only 34 seconds into the first overtime period. Herstek had a goal for himself in the 27th minute to bring Mason back to level terms after Dennis Castillo had capitalized on a poor play by the Patriots’ defense to give VCU the early lead.
Mason women's basketball defeats Utah Valley 82-64 in home opener
|Mason women’s basketball sailed past Utah Valley last night, in an 82-64 win in the team’s home opener at the Patriot Center. Senior Janaa Pickard tallied a career-high 21 points and 21 rebounds in the last home opener of her Mason career, sealing the victory for the Patriots.
“We have kind of nicknamed her ’The X-Factor,’” said Nyla Milleson, the Patriots’ head coach. “I truly believe that she’s the X-Factor for us to be successful.”
Mason Gives Back helps with Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts
|At the top of the Mason Gives Back website is a letter asking for monetary donations to help with the ongoing relief effort in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

|The Mason women’s basketball team takes on the Utah Valley Wolverines at 7 p.m. tonight in their home opener at the Patriot Center.
Mason (1-1) is coming off of a 74-67 win against Morehead State, after dropping their first game of the season to East Carolina. Redshirt sophomore Taylor Brown led the team with 24 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Sandra Ngoie contributed 14 points and tallied eight rebounds in the game.
Men's soccer scrapes past St. Joe's in PKs to advance to A10 semifinals
|The Mason men's soccer team held off the St. Joseph's Hawks in penalty kicks, 4-2 this afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Both teams were held scoreless in regulation as Mason's goalkeeper and A10 Rookie of the Year Steffen Kraus finished with five saves while St. Joe's keeper Andrew D'Ottavi saved four shots.

|With a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure University over the weekend, the Mason men’s soccer team secured the second seed entering the A-10 conference championship today, facing Saint Joseph’s University in Dayton, Ohio.

Land cleared as Fenwick renovations continue
|Fenwick Library, one of Mason’s oldest buildings, will be nearly unrecognizable after current renovations complete. It is estimated that the project will be finalized in the winter of 2015.
Currently, the construction of Fenwick is in its initial phase, with the land having been cleared so the building of the additions can begin.
Despite the appearance that this project has resulted in the loss of green space, the team has done as much as they can to preserve the surrounding trees.

|Mason women's volleyball defeats Fordham 3-1 on Senior Night
|The Mason women’s volleyball team defeated the Fordham Rams three sets to one on Senior Night at the RAC on Saturday. The first, third, and fourth sets were highly competitive, with the first and the fourth set exceeding 25 points for a winner to emerge. The Patriots came out victorious due to huge contributions by seniors Tori Price, Lana Zonjic and Laura Spencer. All three put on a show in their last home match of their careers. Zonjic and Spencer led the way for the Patriots with 14 and 12 kills respectively, while Price tallied a team-high 41 assists for the Patriot offense.
