Mason sends electronic holiday greeting card
Remember how folks were decorating the Mason statue with ornaments earlier this semester? The end-product is here, just in time for the holidays.
Earlier this week, George Mason University debuted its Mason Holiday Video. The electronic holiday greeting card reflects a growing trend at universities across the country, but with a dash of green and gold spirit courtesy of charismatic pep band director Dox Nix.
Nix wrote the melody and lyrics for the video's song "Love, Peace, and Joy." Students, faculty and popular university faces – including President Alan Merten, Coach Jim Larranaga and the Patriot – performed the piece and appear in the video.
The e-card, filmed by professionals, was produced by University Relations, who passed along the following message:
Sometimes it takes a whole university to create a video. And that’s a good thing.
Mason’s first electronic holiday greeting card has been completed, with the help of Michael “Doc Nix” Nickens, President Alan Merten and Sally Merten, Provost Peter Stearns, Coach Jim Larranaga, The Patriot, the Mason cheerleaders, and dozens of other students and staff members representing units all over the university.

The video project was produced by University Relations staff, and was filmed by Lab3 Inc., a professional video production company. Doc Nix wrote the melody and lyrics to “Love, Peace and Joy,” which is performed in the video by students in the School of Music. The video also features students saying “peace on earth” in their native languages.
Says Christine LaPaille, vice president for University Relations, “It was a lot of fun making this video, which really captures the inspiration and innovation we find at Mason. We hope everyone will share it with their families, friends, neighbors, professional associates — and the world!”
