In third year, academic expo continues 'easy one-on-one advising'
Annual academic advising expo gave students a chance to get one-one-one advising in Dewberry Hall. The annual event is sponsored by Student Government (Alicia Thayer).
The third annual Student Government Advising Expo took place in Dewberry Hall on Tuesday with 29 departments, colleges, and student organizations represented at the event.
Melissa Jackson, the event coordinator described the Expo as, “a perfect opportunity for students who need quick and easy one-on-one advising.”
The event specializes in showing students that they have many resources, academic and non-academic, available to assist them. “Some students don’t even know who their academic advisor is or what resources are available, and this event is the way to find out,” said Jackson.
Representatives from many student organizations and offices participated in the event and talked with students about how to get involved on campus and build a successful resume.
One of the offices in attendance was the Office of the Ombudsman, which has been open since 2007. The office advocates for the fair and equal treatment of all Mason students. It provides a neutral and confidential place for students to express and resolve any problems or concerns at the university.
Other organizations at the event included the LEAD office and the Center for Global Education (CGE). Both groups had representatives available to offer ways for students to get involved on campus, locally, and across the globe.
