“Love South Sudan” fundraising event raises awareness, sends aid to new nation
This week, Mason Cru and the Global Aid Network will be hosting Love South Sudan, a fundraising and humanitarian initiative designed to send packets of vegetable seeds to displaced families in the new nation of South Sudan. The event will be held in the Hub (formerly SUBII) ballroom all day, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. All are welcome to volunteer to help pack seeds for shipping. T-shirts will also be sold at a price of $20, enough to cover the cost of 40 seed packets.
Sneak preview of horror film to hit JC Cinema just in time for Halloween
Horror flick Paranormal Activity 3 will be haunting the JC Cinema this Thursday, Oct. 20 at 9 PM; the day before it sees wide release in theaters. The film follows a couple as they attempt to record and escape the supernatural events that occur in their house. The film is presented by the Program Board.
Costume Contest gives Potter fans a chance to show wizarding spirit
Fans of the Harry Potter series will want to be at the JC Cinema on Friday at 6 p.m. for the Program Board Movie and Costume Contest, featuring back-to-back showings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. Those who come in costume will receive free soda and popcorn. Costumes will be judged between screenings, and the winner will receive a Harry Potter cutout. The program is presented by the Program Board.
Local ensembles to perform at Center for the Arts
The GMU Wind Symphony will be performing alongside the Fairfax Wind Symphony this Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. The performance is presented by the School of Music.
“Live @” concert series returns to Pilot House
The “Live @” series returns to the Pilot House this Friday at 8 p.m., this time featuring R&B group 40Love. “Live @” is a concert series presented by the Office of Housing and Residence Life that gives Mason students a chance to showcase their talent. Those interested in performing may contact Joey Allen at jallen23@gmu.edu to set up an audition.
