Wednesday, April 25 What it is: Join Café-GMU for an afternoon of culinary education, and learn how to make tradition Korean dishes such as kimchi (cabbage) and bulgogi (beef BBQ). The first 12 participants to arrive will be able to actually cook! Why it’s our pick: Cooking participation is on a first come first served basis, but others will still be able to stay and watch. Due to high anticipated turnout, participants are encouraged to arrive early and, out of respect for the cooking instructor, asked to stay for the whole event. The event itself is free, but $10 or a meal swipe will be required to get into Southside. Where: Southside, 2 – 5 p.m. |

Wednesday, April 25 What it is: Presented by the College of Education and Human Development, this discussion will cover various aspects of the recent controversy surrounding the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. These will include the social, racial and legal implications of the shooting, why it has become a national controversy and what students and citizens can do to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Why it’s our pick: The panel will include students, faculty and staff from across disciplines and departments. RSVPs to Joseph Williams at jwilli32@gmu.edu are recommended but not required. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served. Where: Mason Hall room D003 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. |

Thursday, April 26 What it is: In celebration of Noise Awareness Day 2012, the School of Art is putting on its third annual Noise-a-Thon, a showcase of local experimental musicians and performative sound artists. This year’s performers include hip hop artist Black Saturn, progressive rock band Bella Russia and many more. Why it’s our pick: Those interested in the DC experimental music scene probably won’t want to miss this event! Light refreshments will be served and the event will keep going until the music stops. Where: Art and Design Building room 1007 CAP Studio, 7:30 p.m. |

Friday, April 27 What it is: Celebrate Mason at the 47th annual Mason Day, Mason’s longest running tradition. Attendees can enjoy rides, games, free food and performances by great bands, headlined by Hot Chelle Rae. Why it’s our pick: Mason Day should once again prove to be one of the biggest celebrations of the year. As always, tickets are free for students with valid Mason ID. Don’t miss out on what’s sure to be a great time! Where: Lot L, 3 – 10 p.m. |

Saturday, April 28 What it is: Presented by Weekends at Mason, send out the 2011-12 school year with a bang when Mason Takes Over King’s Dominion this Saturday. Why it’s our pick: The first 1000 student tickets are $20 with Mason ID. Bus transportation is available on a limited basis to and from the park for $15, and an optional buffet lunch is available for the same price. Graduating seniors can meet at the Eiffel Tower at 2 p.m. for a graduating class photo. Tickets can be purchased and more information can be found at the Weekends at Mason website. Where: King's Dominion Theme Park, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. |
