What Is The Enclosed Instruction Book?

The Enclosed Instruction Book exists under the guise of a new wave and local artist show. In truth, that is exactly what it is; the secret lies in the nature of that music. New Wave was a broad label placed on numerous diverse artists from Yellow Magic Orchestra to Divinyls to Wreckless Eric to the B-52s. New Wave, however unintentionally, united punk, synthpop, post-punk, and even bossa nova under one flag; after the excess of Disco and the pop giants of the late 70s, a reversion to creating music without instructions. Instead of going by the book, artists took hints from classical music, early rock 'n' roll, and (to an extent) punk and remade it in the image of the late 1970s, breaking numerous barriers in the process.

The broad flag of New Wave leaves room for contemporary local music. Again without the support of the record industry, small musicians work without instructions and without precedent, playing only from their hearts because they have no other standard to work towards. Often together with low-budget engineers with no choice but to partake in auditory experiments to create the best sound, these artists create new sound with no instructions.

The Enclosed Instruction Book is a show that plays music by those who had no instructions; people who, instead of staying the course, took the very base of something and reformed it into something totally new. Local artists with no corporate guidance, New Wave pioneers with no technological precedent, perhaps even pioneers of recorded audio itself.
