Additional information on Andre Cornelius
While Andre Cornelius was arraigned on Monday, generally indicating that an investigation has closed, the George Mason University police department told Connect2Mason that the investigation was still open. No records were made available at that time.
An unidentified woman from the Commonwealth's Attorney's office indicated that no attorney from their office would be assigned until the case moved closer to the preliminary hearing. At that hearing, Cornelius will be able to enter a plea if he has not already reached a plea agreement with the Commonwealth's attorney.
Detective Bickerton was named as the complainant on court records, probably to protect the anonymity of the tipster or victim.
Notes: Cornelius retained his attorney. As a spokesman for Cornelius, Councilman Manuel A. Capsalis had no comment on the charges or the hearing. He waived the readings of the charges, but not the rights associated with them. Hon. Judge Penney Azcarate released Cornelius under the condition that he return in November for his preliminary hearing.
Cornelius was also accompanied by a basketball team manager.
