Phillies Overcome Rain To Defeat Rays
By Broadside Asst. Sports Editor Brian Chan
The 50-hour delay in Game Five of the World Series was just as long as Jamie Moyer’s fastball crossing home plate. It was a longer wait for the Philadelphia Phillies, who won their last title in 1980, as closer Brad Lidge struck out Tampa Bay Rays pinch-hitter Eric Hinske to conclude a thrilling 4- 3 victory.
Third baseman Pedro Feliz, signed as a free agent in the offseason, broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to center field.
OPINION: Mason IS This Year's Top CAA Team
By Broadside Staff Writer John Koblan
The George Mason University Men’s Basketball Team is fresh off a great season in 2007–08. Last year we had great wins over Dayton, Miami Heat’s Michael Beasley and his then nationally ranked Kansas State team, both topped by a heart stopping and gritty one–point win over the 2005 and 2006 NIT Champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks. We watched Dre Smith put on a performance on the level of Kobe Bryant or Lebron James in front of stunned and depressed James Madison fans down in Harrisonburg as he went 10 of 10 from 3-point range on his way to 34 points. The team won the CAA Championship and lost to Notre Dame.

The Patriots defeated top-seeded UNC Wilmington Seahawks, snapping the Seahawks’ five-game win streak in a 1-0 victory at George Mason Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The must-win victory comes on Senior Night in which six Patriots, including the game-winning goal scorer Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe, were recognized for their long-standing commitment to the university.
Adjeman-Pamboe scored his second game-winning goal of the season off a rebound from the right side in the 52nd minute following a hard shot by freshman midfielder Eber Martinez.

By Broadside Sports Editor Michael Coppinger
For Branson Real, golf is more than a sport—it’s an escape from the everyday rigors of life. “My favorite thing about golf, is that I can go out on the golf course and just get rid of everything in my life,” Real said. “The problems disappear. I know I can’t take care of them while I’m out there. It just gets me away from the struggles of life.”
Mason’s Winless Streak Grows to Eight Games

After many missed opportunities, the College of William & Mary Tribe finally knocked one in. For the first 80 minutes, 1,092 screaming fans of both teams had to catch a breath after close plays one after another. After making eight terrific saves in the second half, George Mason University goalkeeper Kelly Keelan’s “brick wall” performance was finally vulnerable to the Tribe’s ninth shot with nine minutes left in regulation.
