Last season, George Mason University’s two leading scorers on the men's soccer team, Chris Chaves and Fro Adu, netted three goals apiece. One of 10 freshmen on the 2008 roster, forward Draymond Washington entered the season hoping to quadruple that amount. With a third of the season complete, Washington already has been a major factor as a goal scorer and team player.
Women’s Soccer Tripped Up By Indiana University
Story by Broadside Correspondent Adam Syvlain. Photos by Mahmoud Lababidi.
On a damp Friday evening at George Mason Stadium, the Mason women’s soccer team fell to Indiana University 4-1. After winning back-to-back shutout victories against Hartford and Mississippi State on the strength of great defense and brilliant goaltending by junior Kelly Keelan, George Mason University was hoping to build on that momentum and even add to its 3-3 record this season.
The Unassumed Patriot Leader: Tom O’Connor

Compared to Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jim Larranaga and the men’s basketball players, Athletic Director Tom O’Connor is a relative unknown in the Patriot fan community. It’s not surprising then that fans are unaware that much of George Mason University’s impressive athletic success these past few years (the Final Four run made by the men’s basketball team in 2006, having nationally ranked ranked men’s volleyball and women’s lacrosse teams) is due in part to the relatively behind-the-scenes work done by O’Connor.
